Website Design Tips: 6 Pointers For A
Successful Site
Your website can be one of your company's most
important assets. A website with proper form and function
can serve as your most valuable salesperson. A website is
open 24/7 and is perpetually engaging your customers. They
make communicating with your customer simple, it is easier to
visit a website than visiting the business, writing or even
making a phone call. In addition, a website will boost
your customers confidence in your business and increase
credibility. So what makes a good site?
1. Emphasize a call to action. A website is worthless if
it does not result in some action by your customer. The
call to action does not necessarily need to involve money.
It could be as simple as downloading a brochure or filling out
an information form.
2. Provide answers to your customers questions.
Anticipate the queries that might come out upon seeing your
website. Make sure these questions are understood and
answered.
3. Don't be afraid! Many small businesses
don't design and implement a website because for many it is a
daunting task. A good designer can walk you through all
phases of development and provide you with website registration,
hosting and search engine submission. Although it's never
a good idea to sacrifice quality, every minute your company does
not have a web presence is a missed opportunity. Don't
wait on creating your website because your company bio is
incomplete. In most cases simple and inexpensive text
changes can be made after the site is up and running.
4. Build for functionality not aesthetics. A nice
looking site that confuses a customer will fall short. Use
bullet points to highlight attributes and benefits. Always
include a contact us page. For larger sites make sure to
include a sitemap to make it easier for search engines to index
your website.
5. Don't be everything to every person.
Narrow down your target market. You cannot please everybody same
thing that you cannot be good at everything. Thus, this fact
calls for the narrowing of your target market. It is
better to pick a certain audience and try to be good at catching
their attention, preference and choice.
6. Consider how you will promote your site. It helps to
know the basics of SEO and copywriting. Search Engine
Optimization is the process of listing your website in online
search engines and directories. Designers must have basic
knowledge about search engine optimization because it will
affect how your site is designed. A site is no good if
nobody visits!!
